Oral History Workshop

October 10, 2009

The Historical Society conducted its first Oral History Workshop! Students made their way through five inches of snow with parents, grandparents and neighbors to learn about the various aspects of oral history, such as: unique benefits, project preparation, research, conducting interviews and repository preparation. Students also had the opportunity prepare a question outline and conduct their own oral history interview!

Shannon Siert interviews her grandfather, William Siert.

Sue Shipley is interviewed by her granddaughter,

Caitlyn Barry.

Director of Education, Dan Spegel, discusses the value of oral history and how to conduct an interview.

Larisa Skrypnik talks about her life as a child in Russia, with her neighbor, Eli Wanek.

Dan Spegel describes how oral history interviews are primary sources, and should be made available to others for research.
